About the Position

The Superintendent of Public Works serves as the Town of Genesee’s leader for public works operations, responsible for the planning, administration, and day-to-day management of the Highway Department while functioning as a working manager alongside staff. Reporting to the Town Administrator and working closely with the Town Board, the Superintendent oversees road maintenance and construction, parks, cemetery operations, snow and ice control, fleet and equipment management, and public works personnel. This position provides hands-on leadership while ensuring the efficient delivery of high-quality public services through sound financial management, employee development, operational planning, and exceptional customer service.

The Ideal Candidate

The Town of Genesee seeks an experienced, hands-on public works professional who combines strong leadership with technical expertise and a commitment to exceptional public service. The ideal candidate will be a working manager who leads by example, actively supporting daily operations while providing strategic direction for the Highway Department. This individual will demonstrate sound judgment, strong organizational and financial management skills, and the ability to balance operational priorities with long-term infrastructure planning.

The successful candidate will be a collaborative leader who values communication, accountability, and teamwork. They will foster a positive workplace culture by mentoring employees, promoting safety, and encouraging continuous improvement. Beyond the department, this individual will build strong relationships with the Town Board, residents, contractors, and partner agencies while providing responsive customer service and representing the Town with professionalism and integrity. Hiring Range: $41.58–$50.48 per hour ($86,500–$105,000 annually), plus overtime opportunities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education in public works, engineering technology, construction management, or a related field is preferred.

  • Progressive experience in public works, highway, or municipal operations, including supervisory responsibilities.

  • Valid Wisconsin Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and public works management systems.
