The Ideal Candidate
The City Administrator serves as the City of Rhinelander’s chief administrative officer, responsible for the effective management of day-to-day municipal operations and the implementation of policies established by the Mayor and Common Council. Working within Wisconsin Statutes and local ordinance authority, the City Administrator provides executive leadership across all City departments, ensures efficient and responsive municipal services, and serves as the principal administrative advisor to the Mayor and Common Council. This role requires a collaborative, ethical, and strategic leader with extensive experience in municipal administration, financial management, personnel administration, intergovernmental relations, economic development, and public communication.
The successful candidate will be an exceptional communicator and relationship builder who values collaboration, transparency, and accountability. They will foster a positive organizational culture by empowering department leaders, encouraging innovation, and building trust throughout the organization. Beyond City Hall, this leader will actively engage with residents, businesses, community organizations, and regional partners, serving as a visible and credible ambassador for the City. Expected Hiring Range: $130,000-$145,000 (DOQ)
Excellent benefits package and enrollment in Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS).

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, or a closely related field is required, and a Master’s Degree is preferred.
Minimum of five years of executive-level municipal management experience.
Experience in budgeting, finance, human resources, organizational leadership, and public administration.
Ability to communicate effectively with elected officials, staff, and residents.
Valid Wisconsin driver’s license.
